Call for Applications: Theda Rehbock Philosophy Residency 2026–2027

Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 Theda Rehbock Philosophy Residency at Susimetsa Philosophicum, Estonia.

The residency offers philosophers 2–3 weeks of dedicated time and space for concentrated reading, thinking, and writing in a peaceful setting near Pärnu, Estonia. It is designed as a retreat from everyday academic and social obligations, with no required teaching or public programme.

Standard residency accommodation is free of charge; residents pay only a one-time cleaning fee. Optional accommodation upgrades are available.

We welcome applications from philosophers at all career stages, including graduate students, early-career researchers and senior scholars, and from all fields of philosophy.

The residency honours Theda Rehbock (1957–2021), German philosopher and bioethicist. Preference is given to projects that engage with her work or related themes, including moral autonomy, dignity, doctor–patient relationships, living wills, emotions, language and ethics, and Goethe’s theory of colours.

Residents who wish may also connect with colleagues at the University of Tartu, including the Centre for Ethics and the Institute of Philosophy and Semiotics.
